Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the launch of Project Golden Door, a major expansion to the current lineup of New York Immigration services available to immigrants. This new program will significantly increase access to legal services for newcomers to our country and immigrants who may be facing issues with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or other federal immigration authorities.
Instituting a Regional Rapid Response Program
One element of Project Golden Door is the implementation of a Regional Rapid Response Program designed to provide emergency legal support for those who may be facing critical issues with ICE or other agencies. By providing immediate access to a qualified New York immigration lawyer, this program may offer added hope for those facing detention and possible deportation proceedings in the state of New York.
Helping to Keep Families Together
According to Governor Cuomo’s office, approximately 940,000 undocumented immigrants are currently residing in New York. More than 50,000 of these individuals are believed to be under the age of 16. By providing immigrants and their families with expert legal help from a knowledgeable New York deportation lawyer, Project Golden Door and the Regional Rapid Response Program will provide added protection for families in our area.
Expansions to Other Services
Project Golden Door will also provide added health care options for immigrants by partnering with SOMOS Community Care. This will allow children and adolescents to access the medical services and support they need to enjoy better physical and mental health. By providing medical and legal support for immigrants in our area, Project Golden Door will help to ensure the best possible start for immigrants who might otherwise fail to receive proper medical care or legal representation.
