Several Pending Lawsuits
As an immigration attorney NYC, our office is closely following several lawsuits that are currently pending in the Supreme Court of the United States which could have a direct impact on millions of immigrants. These range from a Brooklyn lawsuit to ACLU represented suits in Seattle, Los Angeles and elsewhere.
Brooklyn Lawsuit
In this suit, the plaintiff is alleging that his work permit was illegally revoked based upon a Texas Court’s ruling. To an immigration attorney NYC, this case is obviously of great interest as there are many of our clients who may be affected by the decision in this case. There may be millions affected around the country.
United States v. Texas
This suit was actually heard by the Supreme Court in June of this year, and the result was a 4-4 deadlock the issue; challenging expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). This means that the injunction halting the implementation of these programs stands. As an immigration attorney NYC, it’s heartbreaking to think of the millions of lives left in limbo due to the Court’s indecision on this issue.
Bond Reform in the Immigration System
The ACLU has also taken action against the way that the federal government sets bonds for those in immigration cases. Currently, the federal government has no set standard that takes into consideration an individual’s ability to pay when setting bond in immigration cases. As an immigration attorney NYC, I have seen first-hand where people may languish in jail for years pending the hearing of their immigration cases, never having committed a crime. Now that’s criminal!
More Pending
There are more pending cases. New lawsuits are filed frequently, challenging the constitutionality of current laws and or processes. It is nearly impossible for an individual to keep up with the myriad of cases newly filed or to follow the progress of older cases through the court system. That’s why we suggest that you don’t try to go it alone.
