Family Visitor Visas

Family visitor visas are a great option for individuals who have immigrated to the U.S. for work or to begin the process of moving their whole family.

When one person establishes residency in the United States, oftentimes they still have family members in their country of origin. The U.S. resident wishes his / her family to visit, there is an option called a family visa. A family visa will allow a member of your family to visit the United States for a set period of time. Family visas are a great option for individuals who have immigrated to the U.S. for work or to begin the process of moving their whole family. The only problem with family visas is that they are difficult to obtain, there are many legal hoops to jump through, as well as a lot of documentation to be filed, and even then, there may not be a visa available at the time.

In some cases, obtaining a visa for visiting is as simple as being the spouse of child of another visa holder, such as someone with an F-1 or a J-1 visa. In other cases, it can be more complicated. One example of a visa that can be achieved is known as B-2 visa, which is a visitor visa reserved for those seeking to enter into the United States for pleasure, tourism or medical treatment.

To qualify for this visa, your family member will need to meet the following requirements:

  • Purposefully be entering for business, pleasure or medical treatment.
  • Planning on staying for only a short, specified period of time.
  • Have the clear funds to cover themselves while traveling.
  • Have compelling social and economic ties elsewhere.
  • Have a residency outside of the U.S. to ensure return.
